Documentation is created so that you read it, and follow it. It is not there to act as a gigantic coaster.

When I was leaving my previous role, I intentionally created very detailed and precise documentation about how to complete the full Model update each quarter. Complete with pretty pictures for those who get bored with words.

ANG doesn’t seem to believe in paying attention to any of these documents but rather just runs along at a mile a minute and then arrives at my office. The exchange follows this exact pattern EVERY TIME!

ANG: The model is broken.
MEX: What’s wrong?
ANG: I dunno.
MEX: Is there an error message?
ANG: Yes.
MEX: What does the message say?
ANG: I dunno.

Sigh.

And of course, the answer is usually that ANG skipped a step (or four) and so clearly things will not work.

On Friday, ANG took the last three cookies in my cookie box. And did not even bother leaving a note either thanking me for them or even letting me know they were finished. So when the study group got together on Friday evening – there were no cookies!!

Let’s ignore all the unprofessional behaviour on the part of ANG (see Annoying New Guy post) during the actual meeting. During one uncomfortable point I filled the silence by saying “You deserve a cookie. And in fact, I will give you one.”

So he follows me to my office post-meeting (literally, like a puppy dog). I open my cookie box as I explain that these are actually for the study session I have organized.

“Can I have two?”

Um, okay, so I bring in snacks for an ‘event’ I have organized and I was nice enough to offer you one. And then you ask for two?? (when there’s only a handful to begin with)

My reaction: laugh.

“No really, can I have two? Seriously.”

I am a bad blogger.
It has been four months since my last post.

The reason? Studying.

Days until Mom is back .. 5 (this is both positive and negative)

I have nothing of interest to say at the moment, so will spare you a long pointless post.
